Canada: The Federal Government pledged $1.48 billion to the ‘ecoENERGY for Renewable Power’ (ERP) initiative in January 2007. This initiative will provide $0.01 per kilowatt hour for up to 10 years for eligible low-impact renewable power projects such as wind, solar PV, small hydro, biomass, tidal and geothermal. Replacing the previous government’s Wind Power Production Incentive (WPPI) program, terms and conditions of the ERP program will be released shortly. Ontario: The government of Ontario announced the Renewable Energy Standard Offer Program (RESOP) in November 2006, a program based on international feed-in tariff models to stimulate the development of renewable power projects in the province. A Standard Offer Contract (SOC) issued by the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) provides a fixed price for renewable power for a 20 year purchase period, creating a stable economic climate for renewable power projects.
