John V. Veech Managing Director Lehman Brothers
John Veech is a Managing Director and head of the global project finance practice at Lehman Brothers. Since joining Lehman Brothers in early 1997, he has been involved in numerous projects, structured, asset-based and lease financings for most major industry sponsors, both in the acquisition and “greenfield” context. He has been involved in many of the major generation portfolio financings, as well as traditional single asset financings, in the energy, power and infrastructure sectors. Lehman Brothers was recognized as Project Finance Bond House of the Year (Americas) in each of 1999, 2001, 2002 and 2004 and 2005, Global Project Finance Bond House of the Year in 2004, has underwritten or placed in excess of $40 billion of capital markets project financing debt since 1998, including numerous novel and first time financings, and has received several “Deal of the Year” awards in project finance.
John has been involved for the last several years in the representation of numerous private equity firms and other financial sponsors in bids for and acquisitions of project assets and asset portfolios. He has been involved in most of the major asset auctions during the past three years, and the related leveraged acquisition financing structures. He has been active in developing “single B” and “BB” financing structures for projects and project portfolios, both in the “buy side” and “stapled financing” contexts.
Recently, John has been active in renewables financings and acquisitions, including wind power, geothermal and biofuels. He has been involved in acquisitions, tax equity and mezzanine financing for wind companies and projects. He recently represented BP in its acquisitions of Greenlight and Orion, raised $225 million in corporate level capital for Invenergy, and completed a municipal “pre-pay” tax equity investment for Lehman’s own book. He has also been involved in a variety of other strategic assignments in the renewables sector.
John has also been active in recent auctions involving the privatization of governmental infrastructure, and the related financing structures, including bids for the toll roads, tunnels, port operators and municipal parking facilities.
John has also completed several high profile international “upstream” energy project financings, including $4 billion aggregate bond financings for the Ras Gas II/3 LNG project in Qatar, and the $1.1 billion financing for the Tengiz oil & gas project in Kahzakstan.
Prior to joining Lehman Brothers, John was employed in the Structured & Project Finance Group at Salomon Brothers. He was previously an attorney with Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom in New York, where he represented most of the major investment banking firms.
John is a graduate of Boston University School of Law (JD) and Lehigh University (BS).
