Environmental Assessment Process:

InterWind is executing an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Byran Wind Project to identify the potential environmental effects of proposed initiatives before they are finalized.

In general, environmental assessments have a number of goals:

  • Describe the existing environmental conditions in the area of interest or possible development;

  • Identify possible environmental effects; and

  • Propose measures to mitigate adverse effect wherever these have the potential to occur.

Environmental assessments are conducted at an early stage in the development of wind energy projects. Environmental factors are used by decision makers to determine an environmentally-friendly plan for the development of projects.

By considering environmental effects and mitigation early in the project planning cycle, environmental assessment can have many benefits, such as:

  • An opportunity for public participation;

  • Increased protection of human health and safety;

  • The sustainable use of natural resources;

  • Reduced project costs and delays; and

  • Increased government accountability.

The environmental assessment process will ensure that the project is developed in an environmentally-friendly manner.
